conclusions pedicled pibf is a new option for treating distal radius fracture non:union:. the results are predictable in achieving :union: and good function, and this technique can be successfully used in cases with extensive soft-tissue damage or infection. background non:union: of distal radius fractures is disabling. treatment is difficult and the results are not predictable. however, posterior interosseous bone flap (pibf) has been successful in treating forearm non:union:. objectives to treat distal radius fracture non:union: with pibf as a new procedure. patients and methods this prospective non-randomized cohort study was performed at two hospitals in tehran between january 2011 and september 2015. pibfs were applied in nine patients (10 non:union:s) with a mean age of 55 years. :union: success rate, grip strength, wrist range of motion, and forearm rotation were then evaluated. results although four of the patients had a history of infection, all participants achieved fracture :union: at a mean time of 3.8 months. grip strength improved by 12.4 kg. there was also 36° improvement in wrist flexion, 20° improvement in wrist extension, 60° improvement in forearm supination, and 46° improvement in forearm pronation. the range of motion and grip strength improvements were significant.

Treatment of Distal Radius Fracture Nonunion With Posterior Interosseous Bone Flap

BACKGROUND Nonunion of distal radius fractures is disabling. Treatment is difficult and the results are not predictable. However, posterior interosseous bone flap (PIBF) has been successful in treating forearm nonunion. OBJECTIVES To treat distal radius fracture nonunion with PIBF as a new procedure. PATIENTS AND METHODS This prospective non-randomized cohort study was performed at two hosp...

Distal radius nonunion after volar locking plate fixation of a distal radius fracture: a case report

We describe a 59-year-old man who had nonunion of a right distal radius fracture after volar locking plate fixation. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation with a volar locking plate system for a dorsally displaced, unstable distal radius fracture at a previous hospital 5 months ago. Radiographs of the injured wrist showed nonunion of the distal radius with 1.5-mm ulnar minus varianc...

Posterior interosseous nerve incarceration with endobutton repair of distal biceps.

Distal biceps ruptures are uncommon injuries that comprise approximately 3% of all biceps pathology. This injury is most commonly seen in 40- to 60-year-old men, and the mechanism of injury involves a forceful extension movement to a flexed elbow. Without surgical intervention, patients are left with measurable weakness in elbow flexion and supination as well as a cosmetic deformity that often ...

Volar Distal Radius Anatomy Applied to the Treatment of Distal Radius Fracture.

Volar locking plate (VLP) fixation has become the standard surgical treatment for distal radius fractures. However, flexor tendon rupture is one of the major complications following volar plating. This detailed review on the anatomy and morphology of the volar distal radius might facilitate appropriate placement of the volar plate and thereby avoid flexor tendon rupture. We introduce safe and s...

Evaluation of one third of distal radius bone density in patients with primary osteoporosis

Background: Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic disease of the bone in the world, and has hit about 200 million people around the world and it increases the risk of fractures. More than 5 million osteoporotic fractures occur annually in the world. Bone mineral density is the standard method of diagnosis of this disease. In this method, proximal of femur (neck) and lumbar vertebra bones (L...
